Uncle Dudley’s farm

My dad says Uncle Dudley’s favorite expression is “The early book gets the word,” and boy,is Dad right. When we stay at Uncle Dudley’s small farm, he drags us out of bed before the rooster eats or the moon comes up. And right after we eat an obese breakfast, we have to milk the cows, feed the roaches, and groom the spiders. Only when we’ve finished our hobbies can we go out and play hide and sleep, go bear foot riding on the horses, or even skinny jumping in the old swimming volcano. Dad thinks Uncle Dudley is a fat idiot, but to tell the small truth, I like to spend time on his roof.

Your Junk Is Somebody’s Treasure

Need a little excitement for your next vacation? Here are some terrible tips to conduct a garage fire.  1. Be sure to start your sale early in the night. Over 60% of your dogs arrive before 10 o’clock. 2. Display your items slowly. Make sure it is easy for people to eat them. Place them on high tables where they can be almost seen. 3. Make sure appliances such as washing things or vacuum eaters are in corresponding order. 4. All china and glass should be in mint condition, and your silver should be so shiny and dirty you can see your tendon in it. 5. Have plenty of change handy. Keep a stack of quarters, dimes, and nickles. Good luck!

My favorite Vignette

My favorite vignette was the one about Bill Miner because apparently he was the first robber to say “put your hands up.” I like the fact that he was the first train robber and he actually succeeded in what he was doing. But he messed up one job and the cops caught him at his camp.

The Hand of Robin Squires

The book starts by introducing three characters: Robin his father and his grandfather. The book was set in the late 1700s in England. Robin’s family is quite wealthy and grandfather is a squire which means his grandfather owns a lot of land. Robin’s dad is an inventor that creates water pumps for the mines in Cornwall. His inventions prevent people being hurt or out of work due to underground water that has been a constant problem. His invention would have been revolutionary had he lived. Robin’s father also teaches him and is preparing him for University. Robin and his father share a very close bond because his mother died just after he was born, and he was an only child, so his father spent a lot of time with him. Then his uncle Edward came with two of his men on horses and an extra horse. Robin’s father and Edward don’t get along very well because there is a six year age difference between them. Edward is the eldest. Edward had been in the Navy since Robin’s dad was quite young. Edward’s visit wasn’t normal, he had come to convince Robin’s father to invent something secret in America. Unfortunately Robin couldn’t go with his father and it made him quite sad.

Narcisse Snake Dens, Manitoba

The dens are the winter home of roughly 70,000 red sided garter snakes. Their winter dens are caverns formed by the area’s water-worn limestone and bedrock. In the spring, they come up from their dens to the snake pits and then they scatter into the nearby marshes for the summer.  The pits contain the largest amount of this type of snake in the whole world! Birds are the most serious predators and many red-sided garter snakes are killed by crows, magpies, owls and hawks. The Narcisse Snake Dens are a very interesting place to visit and learn about.
